The Intellectual Property Desk at the Italian Trade Commission in New York was the official sponsor of the Harper’s Bazaar Anticounterfeiting Summit. This Desk, instituted by the Italian Ministry for Economic Development, is part of a larger project, financed with the funds directed to support the special program defined as “Made in Italy.” In order to achieve this goal, the government created a network of 14 units specializing in Intellectual Property Rights in 10 different countries, located at the ICE Offices. The Desk addresses the needs of SMEs that intend to protect their goods and commercial trade against counterfeiting in the U.S. and handles legal matters throughout its territory. The IPR Desk of New York has just completed, in collaboration with the Law Office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, a guide for Italian investors on how to navigate the US laws governing the IPR. The guide is specifically written to be accessible to non-legal experts and it is available upon request by contacting the Desk at iprdesk.newyork@ice.it.
